Let’s go back in time for a second to elementary school... I bet you can recall a few books that interested, engaged, or frustrated you as a kid. Which book was it? Was it a plot line, a character, or the tone of the writing? Maybe it was an illustrations that brought a story to life. No matter what it was, a pinpoint in these few books shaped our early formation.

Now, imagine not having this. Missing this early reading comprehension benefits that come with it. This is more common than you might think.
In the United States, literacy levels have been declining for decades. One-third of American high school seniors lack basic reading comprehension skills (Woolhouse, 2025). If you think this issue doesn’t affect your community, look at this statistic from Boston Schools. Over 40% of Boston Public Schools don’t have access to a library (Desjardina & Asuaje, 2021).
On the Same Page Boston is working to close the Youth Boston literacy gap. We are on a mission to make an impact, one book at a time- one school at a time. This fall, we’re partnering with the Beethoven Ohrenberger School to raise funds and collect books for their students.
Join us in supporting our campaign and our commitment to giving students a story and educational impact to will stay with long beyond these formative years. Stay updated with our progress @onthesamepageboston on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn!
